The Law of Seriality
length: 60 minutes
This minimalist movement piece, directed by Apolena Vanišová, is loosely inspired by the theories of Austrian biologist and zoologist Paul Kammerer. Four actors closely observe objects moving spontaneously across the stage, focusing on their journey through space. They attempt to mirror or create similar groupings as they emerge in real time. Through the principle of repetition, the production reveals patterns that are often invisible to us in our daily lives. The work offers a visual encounter and invites a meditative immersion in the endless cycle of repetitive patterns, drawing a parallel to Kammerer’s Law of Seriality.
Mentions and Reviews:
“My interpretation of this hour-long nonverbal piece was primarily as the ironic ridicule of the human tendency to categorize, rationalize, in short, to simply ‘fit in’.”

“As spectators, we were able to share, along with the performers, the joy of observation, or at least the joy of their observation. The joy of four researchers and experimenters trying to tame mechanical life. And that’s, in fact, enough. (…) In hindsight, I feel that the most valuable element of the entire production/installation is its element of playfulness. The less the audience thinks about it, the more they’ll enjoy it.”
