England
length: 75 minutes
England discusses art and its role in our lives as well as themes such as transplantation and resettlement. It is a multilayered story of one thing inside another: a story of a strange heart in a strange body, a foreign culture in a culture of another country, of a theatre inside a gallery, of a character inside an actor, a theatrical production inside the theatrical audience itself.
England was commissioned by the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburg. It was written in 2007 by a British playwright and performerTim Crouch, who has also staged it at the Edinburg festival with a fellow actress Hannah Ringham. The production has been very successful and since its opening it has been staged around Europe, e.g. at the festival Neue Stücke aus Europa in Wiesbaden.
