Irena Lipińska / Collective WEDO: !GROT!

The narrative concerning practices and relations in Jerzy Grotowski’s theater calls for deconstruction. Some topics have been (un)consciously ignored, both in the critical discourse and in the artistic practice of his continuators.

Was the master-and-disciple relationship of Grotowski and Cieslak based on dependence and addiction? Or perhaps projection and transference? And the mind-body relationship: what does it look like in this case? And finally, maybe a mind that ceases to be led by the body, needs a crutch? But even a perfectly crafted on might start to rebel one day…

!GROT! is a multimedia dance performance. The choreography is understood as a process of movement structuring, and a constant dialogue between the moving performer and technology.

Irena Lipińska

A performer, dancer, choreographer and photographer.

She received a scholarship from the Alternative Dance Academy in Poznań (2011) and was a resident of Solo Project, a residency program for young choreographers by the Art Stations Foundation (2011). Her solo pieces include: hydrohypno (2009), line (2010), Kompilacje (2011), DNACE (Solo Project 2011), dwa na jeden, LU2077 (2012). In 2013 Lipińska received a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland, which allowed her to develop !GROT! in collaboration with the new media artist Paweł Janicki. She participated in a choreographic exchange programme between Poland and Philadelphia, USA as well as the choreography project Isabelle Schad Collective Jumps. She collaborates with contemporary music and new media artists. She conducts dance and movement workshops, including ones for future actors, as well and children and adults with psychological disorders and movement disabilities.

Paweł Janicki

A creator of audiovisual interactive systems, installations and performances. Janicki is associated with the WRO Center for Media Art as a curator, where he currently directs the WRO Laboratory. Lecturer at the Intermedia Faculty of the Art Academy in Poznań (Poland). In 2004 his internet musical performance Ping Melody has been awarded the netarts.org grand prize by the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts in Tokyo, and has been nominated for an award at the Viper International Film, Video and New Media Festival in Basel. He was also a co-founder and a longtime member of the well-known collective Gameboyzz Orchestra Project exploring a „lo-fi” aesthetic, whose audiovisual compositions, created using video game consoles, have been presented at such events as the International Media Art Biennale WRO in Wrocław, Ars Electronica (Linz), the Transmediale (Berlin) and the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris). Co-creator of the renowned Interactive Playground exhibition. Creator of the Oceanus installation as a part of the Moving Stories European project. In 2013 he took part in a residency program in India.

Magdalena Zamorska

Ph.D graduate in Humanities (2012) and an assistant professor at the Institute of Cultural Studies at University of Wroclaw (Poland). Her interests include new choreography, issues of perception and reception in choreographic performances, exploring the intersections of dance, science and technology. She published a monograph about butoh dance in Poland (Obecni ciałem. Warsztat polskich tancerzy butō 2014) and prepared a report on the subject of dance and multimedia performances in Poland for the Polish Institute of Music and Dance (Multimedialność: strategie wykorzystywania nowych mediów (elektronicznych, cyfrowych) w polskim nowym tańcu). She was also dramaturge of the digital dance performance, !GROT! (2014).
