Strange Songs
strange songs is a concert in which a series of strange songs emerge. By fragmenting, deconstructing, “strangering” and intensifying the voice a hyperphysical way of singig emerges that can become itself a way to dance. Each song and voice that appears invents a specific situation, a way to dance, a temporary identity or character. By using and invoking different voices specific content is adressed. A reference in strange songs are the songs of different genre that exist in our culture: the distinctive techniques of singing applied in these songs, their specific functions, the various forms of staging them. Arias and opera as a classical embodiment of the human affect, punk songs as a form of resistance, the lament as a musical way of crying, rap songs as a political voice, heavy metal as an affirmation of intensity, noise and screaming. These songs are forms of speaking. Next to communicating content and sense, they also have the capacity to adress the “thing itself”, – that what can not be put in words. strange songs is a sensual monolgue that moves in personal and political, prosodie and whistblower, love and terror giving room both to the vulnerable and the monstrous. strange songs won the Fm4 audience award in the frame of the 8tensions series at ImpulsTanz Festival Vienna.
